Can I Donate Eggs Multiple Times?
If you’ve previously donated eggs and had a positive experience, you may find yourself wondering if it’s possible to donate again. Here’s what you should know.
Donating More than Once
The short answer is yes—you can donate your eggs more than once. If your first donation cycle went well without any complications, you are eligible to become a repeat donor.
Restrictions for Multiple Donations
It is important to note that there are some restrictions when it comes to repeat donation:
Maximum Donation
According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), donors are only allowed to donate eggs up to six times in her lifetime. This means that if you donate six times at one clinic, you are ineligible to donate elsewhere. This restriction is for two main reasons:
- For the donor’s health: Although there is no evidence to suggest long-term effects on a donor’s fertility, it is to limit the short-term risks associated with anesthesia, infection, etc.
- Inadvertent consanguinity: This can occur when children who are unaware of their genetics procreate with someone who is their half-sibling.
Who is Eligible for Multiple Donations?
Similarly, to the initial screening process, there are certain qualifications that potential donors need to meet each time they donate. At Asian Egg Bank, our qualification procedures help us select healthy donors with high fertility that meet the standards of our unique market.
Qualifications for donors include:
- Must be over 21 and under 30
- College-educated or currently enrolled in college
- Must have a regular period
- Maintains a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically
- Asian ancestry preferred, but all ethnicities are welcome
