Not only is it possible to get pregnant during fertility treatments, it’s actually likely. Therefore, it’s important that while donors are undergoing fertility treatments, they do not have intercourse. Due to your heightened fertility potential and the possibility of pregnancy, we require donors refrain from sexual intercourse until after the egg retrieval.
The Fertility Treatment Process
What Happens During the Fertility Treatment Process?
After your egg retrieval is planned, you’ll begin the process of ovarian stimulation. For two weeks, you’ll go through a series of hormone injections and evaluations in order to get you ready for the retrieval. It starts with medication that is meant to regulate your normal menstrual cycle. The series of hormone injections stimulate the ovaries and allow for multiple eggs to be produced at once.
Why You Should Avoid Intercourse
Because your ovaries are stimulated, your body will create many eggs and you’ll be more susceptible to getting pregnant. Not only will getting pregnant prevent you from donating your eggs, but it could put you or the fetus’ health in danger.
Ultimately, it’s best to listen to the time frame your specialist gives you and simply avoid sexual activity of any kind.
After Donating
Your fertility will be heightened for one to two months after you donate. This means your chances of getting pregnant are higher than average. However, after the donation process, it is up to you to decide when you’re comfortable having intercourse again. Fertility levels should return to normal after 1 to 2 months. If you have any more questions about how your body will respond after the donation, don’t hesitate to contact our specialists.
